Privacy Policy

Effective Date: May 15, 2007

Safecount (“We” or “Us”) is a leading online technology company that enables advertisers, researchers and media companies to understand the effectiveness of online advertising and marketing programs. In order to do this, We use information collected from multiple websites and launch market research surveys which allow consumers to share their opinions if they wish to do so. Our guiding principle is that consumers (“You” and “Your”) have a right to control and choose what information they share while online. We believe in being clear and transparent regarding Our privacy practices. We consider Your and other web visitors’ opinions to be very important, and We do our best to respect Your privacy and Your right to control what information You choose to share.

This privacy policy pertains to the information We collect from this Safecount website (“Website”) and via the Safecount Technology (“Technology”). This site has implemented P3P (Platform For Privacy Preferences) guidelines including the use of compact and machine readable privacy policies. Our privacy practices are simple and straightforward. Take a read.

If You’d like to opt-out from having Safecount’s Technology collect Your Non-Personally Identifiable Information, please click here. When You opt out, We set a special cookie on Your browser which tells Us not to collect Your non-personally identifiable information via the Technology, and not to invite You to participate in Our market research surveys. (For more information, please see the section entitled “What are my opt-out rights,” below.)

If You have any questions about this policy or Our practices, feel free to call Us toll free at 1.866.272.5793, or email Us at privacy@Safecount.net.

What is Safecount’s privacy policy for information collected at this Website?

All information collected at this Website is stored on servers located in the United States. We do not collect Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”) at this Website unless You choose to provide it. PII is information that can be directly used to identify a specific person or entity. A name, a postal address, a phone number or an email address are examples of PII.

Safecount does not knowingly collect PII on this Website from children under 13. If We become aware that PII from a child under 13 has been collected without such child's parent or guardian's consent, We will use all reasonable efforts to delete such information. If You believe Your child has provided this Website with PII, and You would like to have that information removed, please send Your request to Us at privacy@safecount.net.

We collect Non-Personally Identifiable Information (“Non-PII”) from visitors to this Website. For example, We keep automated server log files that record IP address, browser type, time and date from visitors to this Website. These log files are for maintenance purposes only, and We are not able nor do

We make any effort to match them to any PII. We do NOT use cookies or web beacons at this Website.
Safecount takes reasonable efforts to maintain the security of the information We collect, including limiting access only to those employees whom We reasonably believe need to know such information for the purpose of performing their jobs. Please keep in mind, however, that the Internet is not a 100% secure medium. Therefore, although We use reasonable efforts to protect information, the possibility of someone defeating Our security measures does exist.

We do not sell to other entities the PII You may submit at this Website, and would only disclose information in Our possession when required by law, in the event of a sale of all or part of Our company assets, or when We have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on Us.

We may amend this privacy policy from time to time. If We do, We will post a prominent notice on Our Website notifying users of the change. If We make any material changes to Our privacy practices, in addition to posting the notice, We will send emails to users that have opted to receive communications from Us, notifying them of the changes.

What information does Safecount's Technology collect?

Our Technology is part of the mechanism that delivers many of the advertisements that You see while online, and is used, for example:

  • By website publishers to assess the effectiveness of advertising campaigns or to launch invitations to complete surveys ("Website Partners");
  • By independent research organizations that hire Safecount to run market research surveys for them, or to launch surveys that they host themselves ("Research Partners"); and
  • By companies that have asked Safecount to perform market research for them ("Clients").

Information collected automatically:

Safecount’s Technology does NOT automatically collect any Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”). However, if You chose to complete one of Our surveys or join one of Our market research panels, You may be asked to provide Your email address.

Our Technology collects Non-Personally Identifiable Information (“Non-PII”) from visitors to websites operated by Our Website Partners or Clients. The Non-PII collected from visitors by Safecount’s Technology includes: browser and OS version, the web pages viewed at the websites, the online advertisements viewed, and the date and time those ads were viewed. Non-PII by definition cannot be used to identify any specific person or entity.

Our Technology also uses cookies. A cookie is a small piece of data that is sent to Your computer’s Internet browser and stored on Your computer's hard drive. Safecount’s Technology uses cookies to keep track of the types of online ads You see and the number of times You see those ads. Unless You’ve opted-out, every time You see an advertisement that Safecount is measuring, a cookie will be set or recognized by Your browser, and the cookie will record Your interactions with those advertisements. The cookie will also note when You have been invited to participate in one of Our market research surveys, and it will note whether You accepted or declined the invitation to participate. The Non-PII we collect is not retained for any longer than two years.

We note the latter information to help ensure that You won’t be invited to take the same survey again if You’ve already declined an invitation. If You complete a market research survey, information related to that survey will be linked to that cookie. Whether or not You complete a survey, Our cookies do not contain any PII, nor do they contain any information (such as a unique identification number) that could be used to identify You personally. If You would like to know what information is associated with Your

Safecount cookie, please click here to visit our cookie viewer If You do not have a Safecount cookie, Our cookie viewer can tell You that, too.

Sometimes a Website Partner may place Web beacons on its website and use them in conjunction with Safecount’s cookie. Web beacons are small strings of code that are placed in a Web page. They are also sometimes called “clear GIFs” (Graphics Interchange Format) or “pixel tags.” Because a Web beacon is only 1 pixel high by 1 pixel wide, it appears invisible on Your computer screen. For more information about when a Website Partner might use Web beacons, please see the section below called “What information do You share with Clients and Partners?”

If You don’t want Safecount to collect this information from You, You may opt-out by clicking here. When You opt out, We will place an opt-out cookie on Your computer. The opt-out cookie tells Us not to collect Your non-personally identifiable information via the Technology, and not to invite You to participate in Our market research surveys. Please note that if You delete, block or otherwise restrict cookies, or if You use a different computer or Internet browser, You may need to renew Your opt-out choice.

Information You choose to provide:

While You are visiting the website of one our Website Partners, We, or one of Our Research Partners may invite You to participate in one of Our market research surveys. (For more information on Our Research Partners, please see the section entitled “What information do You share with Clients and Partners?” below.)

Your participation in these surveys is completely up to You. If You choose to participate, You will be asked to provide some Non-PII, including: Your birth year, Your zip code, Your gender and Your income. This information is used to determine whether You are a suitable candidate for a particular survey, and to help analyze the data (in aggregate.) Many different types of people participate in these surveys and these types of data help Us and Our Clients understand the groups of people that participated and see if there are any interesting similarities, differences or trends among participants.

You may also be asked to share Your opinions and attitudes as they pertain to certain topics, brands and/or products.

When You participate in one of Our market research surveys, You may be asked to provide Your email address, either:

  • To enter You into a sweepstakes as a way of thanking You for participating in the market research surveys. In this case, We use the email address only to contact You in the event You win the sweepstakes. If You do win the sweepstakes, We will send You an email and ask You to provide Your name, postal address and other information so that We can send You Your prize. We typically send prizes to winners within 4-6 weeks of their participation in the market research survey associated with a sweepstakes; or
  • To join Our research panel. If You agree to join Our research panel, We will use Your email address only to contact You at a later time with additional questions.

Whenever We ask You for Your email address, We will make it clear whether it is to enter a sweepstakes or to join the research panel, and will provide an option for You to participate in either, neither, or both. Lastly, we may ask you to provide your email address to contact you if your response to a question on future behavior indicates an intention to purchase an advertised product or service. In this case, your email address may be used for follow up to discern if you acted on your stated intention. Email addresses are not merged with survey responses and we do not link any non-personally identifiable information you provide on the survey with your email address.

What information does Safecount share with Clients and Partners?

When We collect information for Our Clients, all the information collected during a particular campaign is grouped together and analyzed as a whole - in the aggregate. Your identity will never be attached to a specific piece of information or response. For example, in the analysis We provide to Clients We do NOT say: Bob Smith from Tucson, AZ said, "XYZ." Survey results sent to Our Clients do not include email addresses or other PII.

When We work with Research Partners, some of the market research surveys are hosted on Safecount servers, and some on servers hosted by Our Research Partners. And while We can't be responsible for the privacy practices of Our Research Partners, We do take reasonable steps to ensure that such partners adhere to the following:

  • Research Partners post a link to their privacy policy on every page within the survey. We strongly recommend that You read each privacy policy.
  • Other than email address, Research Partners do not collect PII on their market research surveys.
  • Research Partners do not link survey respondents? PII to their survey responses.
  • Research Partners contractually require their clients to adhere to the preceding requirements.

As described above, We place cookies on the websites of Website Partners. Occasionally, Our Website Partners want to know how Your usage of their website affects Your attitudes as reflected in surveys. To do this, they place Web beacons, on one or more or Our survey pages. This enables Our Website Partners to tell, for example, if people that visit the sports section of their website think differently than people who visit the finance section of their site. We take reasonable steps to ensure that this practice is described in Our Website Partner’s privacy policy, and that the information itself is never released to a third party.

Does Safecount rent or sell my name, address, email information or other PII?

No. We do not rent or sell Your PII. We take our relationship and interaction with You very seriously and We honor that trust by practicing openness, transparency, safety and security.
While We make every effort to preserve user privacy, We may need to disclose information in Our possession when required by law, when We have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on Us. We may also need to disclose information in Our possession in the event of a sale or all or part of Our company assets, but We will take reasonable steps to ensure that the acquirer of such information adheres to this privacy policy.

What security measures does Safecount take?

Safecount takes reasonable efforts to maintain the security of Our network and the information We collect through Our Technology. We use various technologies, including, in certain instances, encryption, to ensure adherence to such security standards. We have an internal security policy with respect to the confidentiality of the information We collect through Our Technology, limiting access only to those employees whom We reasonably believe need to know such information for the purpose of performing their jobs. Please keep in mind, however, that the Internet is not a 100% secure medium. Therefore, although We use reasonable efforts to protect information, the possibility of someone defeating Our security measures does exist.

(For more information about the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, please visit http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/coppa.htm).
If We become aware that PII from a child under 13 has been collected without such child's parent or guardian's consent, We will use all reasonable efforts to delete such information from Our database. If You believe Your child has provided Safecount with PII, and You would like to have that information removed, please send Your request to Us at privacy@Safecount.net.

What if Safecount’s privacy practices change?

If We want to use Your PII in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection, We will notify You via email. You will have a choice as to whether or not We use Your information in this different manner. However, if You have opted out of communication with Us, then You will not be contacted, nor will Your PII be used in the new manner.
